Buildings marked for demolition in Alaba International Market

At least 17 buildings in Alaba International Market, Ojo Local Government Area, were identified by the Lagos State Building Control Agency,  LASBCA, on Friday as being in a severe state of distress and requiring immediate removal.

The LASBCA's general manager, Gbolahan Oki, made this statement after agency representatives marked the buildings on Friday for ultimate demolition.

The state administration reacted quickly and announced that the identified buildings would be demolished shortly in order to prevent them from falling on people and lessen the number of damaged buildings throughout the city.

There are indications that the state government had already decided to demolish the structures before Monday, June 19.

The G80 Alaba Rago Road shopping center, the Good Season Shopping Complex, the building on 840 Ojo Igbede, and the building behind Oba Oseni Plaza are just a few of the shopping centers that the LASBCA has marked for demolition.

Several days after the state government identified locations of more than 340 distressed buildings across the metropolis to be demolished in order to prevent loss of lives and property in the state, the buildings were identified and marked for demolition, Oki said.
