Saturday Election: Tinubu warns against violence and actions that endanger Nigeria's existence

Bola Tinubu, the president-elect, has issued a warning against violence during the supplementary  election on Saturday.

This was stated by Tinubu at a speech on Friday in Abuja.

In Adamawa and Kebbi States, supplementary elections have been set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Additionally, the election will be held nationwide in 58 State Houses of Assembly districts, 31 Federal Houses of Assembly districts, and five Senatorial districts.

Mr. Tinubu urged the electorate in the areas where the additional election will take place to abstain from violence and behave peaceably.

"We must make sure that the election processes are brought to a successful, peaceful finish as the final stage of the 2023 General Election.

"I call on all Nigerians to abstain from violence and behave in an orderly and peaceful manner in the locations where the supplementary polls will be held.

"We should refrain from actions that may jeopardise the conduct of fair elections or endanger the nation's very survival.

"Political candidates can only run for office and voters only have candidates vying for their support when there is a country," he remarked.

The candidates and the electorate, according to Mr. Tinubu, had a serious responsibility in the election, just like INEC officials had.

He continued by saying that they had to make sure the second election was done not only freely and fairly, but also without any hostility, acrimony, or violence that may jeopardise the very fabric of the nation.

He urged APC members and the party's thronging supporters in the areas designated for the election to turn out in force and support the party's candidates.

“Our party members and supporters should vote overwhelmingly for APC to complement and solidify the victory we recorded in the earlier poll.

“This will no doubt help in the effective functioning of government at the Federal and State levels for the benefit of our people.

“On this note, I wish INEC, all voters in the various polling units in these elections, the candidates and parties involved a very successful supplementary poll,” Mr Tinubu said.
