On Wednesday, President-elect Bola Tinubu told members of the National Assembly not to expect his wife, Oluremi, to return to the Senate.
Mr Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate who was declared the winner of the February 25 election, said his wife would now be the "First Lady" in charge of the "other room."
"To my lovely wife. Oluremi Tinubu. You, senators, do not expect her return. She'll be my housewife and First Lady. Enough lending... The other room," he said, addressing his party's faithful and supporters.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Mr Tinubu the winner of the 2023 presidential election in the early hours of Wednesday after he received 8,794,726 votes, beating his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rival, Atiku Abubakar, who received 6,948,520 votes.
Labour Party candidate Peter Obi came third with 6,101,533 votes, while Rabiu Kwankwaso came fourth with 1,496,687 votes.
In his speech, Mr Tinubu also promised Nigerians that he would chart a new course for the country.
He also urged his main opponents in the recently concluded election to seek legal redress in court if they were dissatisfied with the results rather than resorting to violence or protesting the results.
INEC will present Mr Tinubu and Vice-President-elect Kashim Shettima with their certificates of return at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
