Peter Obi and Nyesom Wike |
Governor Nyesom Wike has described Peter Obi of the Labour Party as his hero for the February 25 presidential election in an attempt to persuade Igbo traders in Port Harcourt to vote for Sim Fubara, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Rivers State.
In a town hall with Igbo traders in Port Harcourt, Mr. Wike praised Mr. Obi, who swept clean votes from the southeast, saying, "In this election that we just did, Obi is my hero, as far as I'm concerned."
The Rivers governor claimed that Mr. Obi's candidacy prevented northerners from retaining power following President Muhammadu Buhari's eight-year tenure.
"Power would have remained in the North if he (Mr. Obi) had not contested," Mr. Wike said, pleading for traders' support for Mr. Fubara's gubernatorial ambition.
Mr Wike, who hosted the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide at Government House in Port Harcourt on Friday, stated that Mr Obi left the PDP for the Labour Party because former Jigawa governor, Sule Lamido, insisted on a northern candidate as the party's flagbearer.
