Following a parent's complaint that his child was sent home for using Peter Obi's election poster to wrap his books, the Lagos State Ministry of Education has recalled a school principal for explanations.
Ganiu Lawal, the ministry's spokesperson, stated this in an Ikeja statement on Wednesday.
"The Ministry of Education is investigating a parent's complaint that his child was sent home for using a poster of one of the candidates in the last election to wrap his books," Mr Lawal said.
Mr Lawal stated that the Lagos State government, the Ministry of Education, and all of its agencies would never direct a school principal, personnel, or teacher to act in this manner.
"According to reports, the incident occurred at Odomola Junior Secondary School in Epe, and the ministry has recalled the principal, who will be asked to explain the incident," he said.
Mr Lawal stated that the Commissioner for Education, Folashade Adefisayo, had assured the public that the matter would be handled in accordance with the ministry's strict regulations.
If the reason for sending the student home was true, he quoted her as saying that this would be done.
According to Mr Lawal, the commissioner also hinted that another Odonguyan school principal had been subjected to disciplinary measures because of a political issue.
She stated that the principal, who was caught on camera promoting her political choice to students, as shared on social media, had been subjected to appropriate disciplinary measures.
"The ministry promotes and manages a public school system free of politics and political insinuations.
"A thorough investigation will be conducted, and anyone found culpable will face disciplinary measures in accordance with civil service rules," according to a portion of the statement.
