The suspects were found with 33 knives, eight cutlasses, four scissors, a parcel, and 117 wraps of suspected Indian hemp.
The Kano State police command announced on Thursday that 61 suspected political thugs were apprehended during the All Progressives Congress presidential campaign on January 4.
Mamman Dauda, the Commissioner of Police, made the announcement.
According to Kano command spokesman Abdullahi Haruna-Kiyawa, the arrest was made in accordance with the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali- Baba's, directives to ensure a peaceful election process and combat the threat of political thugs.
"The suspects were apprehended on January 4 during political campaign clearance operations at Sani Abacha Stadium Kano," he said.
He said the suspects' belongings included 33 knives, eight cutlasses, four scissors, a parcel, and 117 wraps of suspected Indian hemp.
Three bottles of Suck and Die, 500 Exol Tablets, and a slew of charms are also included.
The commissioner stated that all of the suspects would face charges in court.
