Professor Yunus Dauda the Director LASU School of Basic and Advanced Studies, LASUSBAS in his opening remarks said “When we look around the main campus, College of Medicine, Epe Campus and LASUSBAS we can see all the projects the VC has implemented within just one year. These projects had impacted positively on academic achievements as well as the welfare of both students and staff of this great university.

“There is no gainsaying in the fact that Professor, Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello is a great achiever and an outstanding and courageous woman that have since her assumption to office of the Vice Chancellor demonstrated with utmost sincerity her intellectual and administrative experiences to make Lagos State University great. No wonder that in December, 2022, the University was declared as the best University in West Africa.

“I will like to say with great respect to the Vice Chancellor that she is always ready to make sure that we have all the human and material resources that could enable all the LASUSBAS students to pass their examinations and to excel in their future endeavours. She ensures that all the students who passed their JUPEB examinations are admitted to 200 level in the University. Within one year of her administration, she provided the following facilities for the LASUSBAS.

“Employment of adequate numbers of tutors, Provision of adequate security staff, Provision of New 50KVA Generator at the LASUSBAS Campus, Provision of New 40KVA Generator at the Aradagun Hostel, Refurbishment of the classroom facilities, Provision of befitting cafeterias for students and staff, Provision of CCTV camera, Provision of Security Post, Provision of adequate laboratory equipment for science students, Provision of Health care facilities for students and staff, Approval of the change of name to LASUSBAS rather than JUPEB Programme, and Approval to have linkage with qualifying examination bodies in U.K., U.S.A., and Canada.

According to him with the support of the Vice Chancellor, the programme has been divided into three major departments: JUPEB Examination (Main function), International Qualifying Examination in UK, U.S.A, and Canada, and Training, Professional Bodies Assistance, and Community Service.

He advised the newly admitted student to consider their admission to JUPEB Programme as a great achievement. They should work very hard and should not waste their time during this period. The examination time is near and there is no other road to success than attendance in the classroom, prompt attention to assignments, and practical and rigorous studying. They should shun cultism, gangsterism, examination malpractice, and other forms of nefarious activities. The university will deal with any students engaged in any unwholesome activities.

“Let me reiterate that we depend on the support and encouragement of the Vice Chancellor and University Management for the implementation of our programmes.

“We are seeking the support of the Vice Chancellor to enable us to visit these professional bodies and universities abroad for linkages. We implore the Vice Chancellor to commence the building of a 500-seat CBT Centre to enable us fulfill the requirement of Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

“We shall also like the Vice Chancellor to build hostels for male and female. The available hostels are no longer sufficient to accommodate our students,” he added.
