Kehinde Fatinoye, a staff member of the Central Bank of Nigeria's Abeokuta branch, and his wife Bukola Fatinoye, a staff member of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), were brutally murdered on Sunday in Abeokuta's Ibara GRA area.
Mr Fatinoye and his wife were followed to their home after the new year crossover service by their assailants, who murdered them and set fire to their home, police officials confirmed to Peoples Gazette.
The victims, who had been burned beyond recognition, were taken to a hospital by police officers and first responders amid the wailings of sympathisers at the crime scene.
Following the attack, the deceased's son and domestic staff were reported missing, with family sources claiming the killers kidnapped them.
Abimbola Oyeyemi, the police spokesperson in Ogun, confirmed the killing and said a suspect had been arrested.
"Investigations on the case are ongoing, and we already have a suspect in custody," Mr Oyeyemi said.
"The commissioner of police has directed the homicide department and the CID to coordinate the investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice as soon as possible," he added.
