Governor Samuel Ortom has stated that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will retain power in Benue in the upcoming elections on February 25 and March 11.
Mr Ortom spoke at a political rally in the council areas of Oju and Obi on Thursday.
He claimed that the party had done everything necessary to win the elections by wide margins.
"As we speak, all 276 councillors in the state are members of the PDP, as are 26 of the 30 members of the state assembly.
We also have seven members of the House of Representatives out of eleven, and all three senators from Benue are PDP members. "Both the deputy governor and the governor are PDP members," Mr Ortom added.
"This demonstrates that Benue is purely a PDP state, which we will maintain," he explained.
The governor advised citizens to arm themselves with their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), emphasising that the elections in 2023 would be different from previous years.
"The era of stealing ballot boxes has passed. The Bimodal Voter Accreditation System has arrived (BIVAS). With the implementation of BIVAS, you must be present at the polling unit to vote because the machine must recognise you before you can vote. "You must take this election very seriously," said the governor.
Meanwhile, Titus Uba, the party's governorship candidate, urged Benue residents to support him and his running mate, John Ngbede.
He stated that they would focus on Mr Ortom's legacies.
"Because the state is endowed with arable land, we will use agriculture to develop the state through modern agricultural techniques," Mr Uba said.
