Aminu Muhammed has been freed on bail. The university student was detained after criticising Aisha Buhari for squandering public funds while citizens suffered.
On November 8, he was arrested by police and turned over to the State Security Service, which took him to the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he was beaten and humiliated by the president's wife.
Mr Muhammed's ordeal sparked widespread outrage after Peoples Gazette reported his arrest for criticising Nigeria's first lady. As the pressure mounted on Mrs. Buhari, she was secretly arraigned before an Abuja court and remanded in custody on November 20.
He was released on December 2 and will now meet with the president at the State House, according to Leadership, who cited the student's brother. The meeting's specifics were not immediately disclosed.
