A total of 446 people were killed in Kaduna as a result of banditry, terrorism, and communal clashes between April and September 2022, according to a state official on Friday.
The figure included 285 people killed in the second quarter of the year and 161 people killed in the third quarter.
This was stated by Samuel Aruwan, the commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, while presenting Governor Nasir El-Rufai with the 2022 second and third-quarter security report.
He also stated that 985 people were kidnapped during the period, with 804 of them abducted in the third quarter, and five people raped in the second and third quarters.
According to the commissioner, 258 people were injured in the second quarter and 156 in the third quarter, respectively, and 5,999 and 1,133 animals were rustled in the two quarters.
Mr. Aruwan, on the other hand, stated that during the period, 74 AK-47 rifles, five locally made rifles, 5,398 live ammunition, and 11 pump action magazines were intercepted.
According to the commissioner, troops killed 168 bandits during the period, with 59 killed in the second quarter and 109 killed in the third quarter.
He warned that bandit activity had harmed farming activities, including livestock production.
The commissioner stated that it is critical to stop the flow of illicit drugs that fuel criminals, adding that ransoms from kidnappings are the main source of funding for the bandits.
Other sources of funding for the bandits, according to Mr. Aruwan, include gun running and the leasing of weapons to groups that cannot acquire weapons.
He stated that the government will continue to strengthen its intelligence network in order to stay ahead of criminals.
