The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election that produced Emmanuel Bwacha as the candidate for the 2023 general elections has been declared null and void by the Federal High Court's Jalingo Division.
David Kente, an aspirant, had approached the court to challenge the primary's conduct, asking the court to order a fesh election, among other things.
On Tuesday, Justice Simeon Amobeda ordered a new primary to be held within 14 days.
According to the judge, the defendant failed to persuade the court that there was a primary election in which he emerged as the party's flag bearer.
The court ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC to withdraw Mr Bwacha's certificate of return.
In response to the judgment, Mr Bwacha's counsel, Ibrahim Effiong, stated that he would study it and consult with his client on the next steps.
Festus Idepefo, the APC's counsel, also stated that he would consult with his client after studying the judgment to determine the next course of action.
Meanwhile, Mr Kente has described the court's decision as a watershed moment.
He claimed that the evidence presented to the court, which influenced the decision, vindicated him and many other party supporters in Taraba.
