Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, a Nigerian rapper, has reacted to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency's burning of 194 billion Naira worth of cocaine.
Last week, the agency reported a large-scale drug bust at a warehouse in Ikorodu, Lagos State.
During the operation, 1.9 tonnes of cocaine worth 197 billion naira was seized, and the suspected drug barons were apprehended.
The seized drugs were set ablaze in a video shared on Tuesday by NDLEA on its Twitter page.
Falz, a lawyer turned rapper, reacted to the news by criticizing the agency for destroying potential evidence before suspects are charged in court.
"This administration must think we're stupid, sha!! What exactly is the NDLEA's lamba (lie) in this cocaine seizure saga? "Do they burn evidence?" he inquired.
According to a press release issued by the agency on Tuesday, an order from the Federal High Court in Lagos was obtained for the public destruction of the illegal drugs.
NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd) was represented at the site of destruction by the agency's Director, Prosecution and Legal Services, Deputy Commander General of Narcotics Sunday Joseph.
According to Sunday, 1,828 blocks of the 1.8-ton seized cocaine will be crushed and set ablaze, while the remainder will be secured for the purpose of prosecuting the suspects who were brought to witness the procedure and sign the certificate of destruction.
"The Agency is proceeding with the prosecution of those arrested in connection with this consignment," he added. The public can be assured that the NDLEA will see the trial through to its conclusion."
