Kaduna Train Attack: Military Uniform, Foreign Currency Found in Negotiators House

The State Security Service (SSS), the secret police of Nigeria, has claimed to have found military uniforms and a sizable sum of cash in Tukur Mamu's residence and workplace.

The recovery comes after his Wednesday arrest at the Aminu Kano International Airport.

Newspaper publisher Mr. Mamu negotiated the release of some hostages from the Kaduna train kidnapping in March 2022.

On his way to perform the lesser Hajj in Saudi Arabia, Mr. Mamu had previously been detained by Interpol in Egypt. He was compelled to go back home to answer more questions from Nigerian authorities.

The SSS claimed in a statement released by its spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, that its men searched the publisher's properties and discovered the incriminating items.

"So far, the right security agencies have carried out lawful search warrants at Mamu's home and workplace.

"Incriminating materials, including military accoutrements, were found during the procedures.

"Other items include sizable sums in various currencies and denominations as well as tools used for financial transactions. Mamu will undoubtedly have a day in court while additional investigations are ongoing, he assured."

A few weeks prior, Mr. Mamu had resigned from his position as chief negotiator for the release of the Kaduna train hostages. He claimed that his life was being threatened by the Nigerian government.

Some of the passengers are still in the hands of the terrorists who were responsible for the train attack in March.
