BREAKING: Gov. Umahi Didn't Disrupt Obi's Rally in Ebonyi - Aide

 BY: News Peddlers

Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State said on Saturday that he never ordered the disruption of a solidarity rally  by supporters of Labour Party Presidential Candidate Peter Obi, in Abakaliki, the state capital in South-East Nigeria.

Chooks Oko, Umahi's Special Assistant on Media and Strategy to the Governor, stated this in a statement issued hours after police tear-gassed Obi supporters at a rally in the state.

Read the Entire Statement:

NO DISRUPTION WAS ORDERED BY THE GOVERNOR.

The Executive Governor of Ebonyi State has been drawn to some online publications and rumors circulating that he ordered the disruption of a rally in support of one of the presidential candidates running in the 2023 elections. This is not correct.

The Executive Governor of Ebonyi State is not aware of any disruption to any gathering because he did not order any. He is a democrat who firmly believes in the rule of law. He wishes every candidate the best of luck and will insist on a level playing field for all. If it is true that the police dispersed people, the blame will undoubtedly fall on the police.

For the record, the relevant government agencies had approved the use of Abakaliki township stadium for a Labour Party rally, subject to the payment of certain fees. It was gathered that rather than pay the fees, the organizers chose to empty into the streets, causing untold hardships on the hapless citizens going about their daily activities.

According to reports, the police had to intervene to restore law and order.

The Governor appeals to all citizens to always follow the dictates of the law and live decently so that law and order reign supreme.

He wishes all political parties and candidates success and encourages everyone to play by the rules.
