BREAKING: Asians Attempt Hacking Osun Election - INEC Chairman

 BY: News Peddlers

Mahmood Yakubu, the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), revealed on Friday in Abuja that hackers from all over the world attacked the commission's Result Viewing Portal (IReV) during the governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun.

At a stakeholders' conference hosted by the civil society organization (CSO) YIAGA Africa to introduce the election result analysis dashboard (ERAD) report agenda, Yakubu gave the keynote address. He claimed that some of the people who attempted to hack the result viewing portal were from as far away as Asia.

"The repeated attempts to compromise the portal's cyber security system are another technical concern for us. I'm relieved to see that they all fell short.

"Despite our confidence in the security solutions we have implemented for IReV and the entirety of our web presence, we must continue to bolster our defenses and be vigilant. Our engineers have been instructed to take all necessary precautions to fully safeguard the IReV and all of our web resources," according to INEC Chairman.

Yakubu added that INEC was working to address additional administrative-related issues.

"For instance, we discovered that some of the field's low-quality uploads, which some observers also noticed, were brought on by the absence or replacement of presiding officers who had received training in advance of the elections.

"We will address this issue administratively and make sure that only Presiding Officers who have received the necessary training are used in elections."

Adding, that "more hands-on training might be necessary, he added, to make sure that everyone involved in the IReV's value chain is prepared for what will undoubtedly be a significant outing during the general election of 2023."
