An Ikeja Magistrates' Court on Thursday ordered the remand of Chinasa Michael, who is accused of torching a BRT bus terminal in Oyingbo, Lagos, during a protest against alleged police abuses in 2020.
The defendant, 21, is being tried for conspiracy, arson, and causing breach of peace. He lives at No. 21, Ilogbo St., Apapa Road, Lagos.
Magistrate M.C. Ayinde, who refused to accept the defendant's plea, remanded him in Kirikiri Correctional Center until September 1, pending legal advice.
Mr Ayinde directed that the case file be duplicated and sent to the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.
Inspector Segun Oke, prosecutor's counsel, told the court that the crimes were committed in October 2020 at the Oyingbo BRT bus terminal in Lagos.
Mr Oke claimed that during the #EndSars protest, Mr Michael and others set fire to the BRT bus terminal.
He claimed that the offences violated Sections 168, 343, and 411 of the Lagos State Criminal Laws of 2015.
