“Portraying a good public image is very important because people already have wrong perception about the organisation while some has not heard about the organisation and how it can be profitable to them," he said.

He further highlighted what should be the basics of the image they are projecting to the public, it should show Rotary in action, service to humanity, connection, learning, mentorship, promoting peace, inspiring and empowering people.

Rotary is known for its service to humanity. “Anything you are posting online should serve either or all of the aforementioned above in other to portray a good image of Rotary. Make sure your service to humanity is not concentrated in one area.”

If this is duly observed it will bring new members, change people’s wrong perceptions and also inform those that are not aware of the organisation.

He pointed out that people are connected to what they see always, and the members should make sure they put new content about the organisation on social media every day in other to boost the image of the organisation.

“Be a good model and mentor to the people in your environment and inspire young people,” he added.

Rotaract Senu Awesu the former zone M District 9110 director in his address spoke on how to Become a People Magnet: "How to attract People into Rotaract"

Award presented to Senu Awesu by Rotarian Wahab Abdul-Rahman

“People judge a book by its cover: You must have seen those “so-called” influencers on Instagram who say that don’t judge a book by its cover but hey, wake up! People do judge a book/person by its cover. Consciously or subconsciously, your mind judges a new person based on their clothes and facial expressions. You can change this pre-assumption about you, but again people will judge if you deserve their time or not based on your looks.”

Stating the criteria to become a magnet as being cheerful, making other people feel important, becoming genuinely interested in other people, be a good listener.

Awesu added that “These attributes will attract people towards you because everyone wants to talk to those who are cheerful. The expression one wears on one’s face is far more important than the clothes one wears on one’s back.”

Being genuinely interested in other people, and listening to what they have to say makes them feel special while maintaining the relationship with them.
