ASUU STRIKE: Good News is Coming Soon, ASSU tells Students

 BY: News Peddlers

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has urged students and Nigerians to expect good news soon, following President Muhammadu Buhari's latest appeal to the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, to end the ongoing strike.

President Muhammadu Buhari has again urged the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, to end its strike.

Mr. Buhari made the call on Friday in Maiduguri during the University of Maiduguri's first Special Convocation Ceremony and the conferral of an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Letters on Muhammadu Indimi, Chairman of Oriental Energy Resources Ltd.

Ibrahim Gambari, the president's Chief of Staff, was in attendance.

"It is more appropriate that we speak about the ASUU strike because we are celebrating Alhaji Indimi, who has done so much to advance quality education not only in this country but around the world."

"In this regard, I would like to convey President Muhammadu Buhari's call for ASUU to end their strike and return to the classroom."

The president stated that negotiations had progressed and that continuing the strike under such conditions would be counter-productive.

According to him, such prolonged interruptions in education are undermining the nation's human capital development.

Prof. Aliyu Shugaba, the university's Vice Chancellor, stated that the first special convocation was held to honor Indimi for his contributions to educational development at home and abroad.

He urged the Federal Government, ASUU, and other university unions to end the strike in order to save the education sector.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo also praised Maiduguri's peaceful atmosphere, saying, "what I saw is contrary to the picture being painted outside."

He congratulated Mr Indimi on the honor, describing him as "a self-made man as demonstrated by his struggle to greatness in life."

Mr Indimi, for his part, expressed gratitude to God for the honor bestowed upon him and reaffirmed his commitment to selfless service to humanity.

Prof. Saliba James, who read the celebrant's citation, stated that Indimi had distinguished himself in promoting educational development both within and outside of Nigeria's borders.

"Indimi has been a remarkable help to the society's vulnerable and downtrodden people, regardless of where they come from."

"He has helped many impoverished students in Borno, his home state, and even in distant states like Akwa Ibom."

"It is on record that Alhaji (Dr.) Indimi has provided vital education infrastructure at International University of Africa (IUA), Sudan; Lynn University, Florida, USA; and, of course, this multi-billion Naira magnificent edifice where we are right now seated and holding this Special Convocation today in this University."

"I believe his best is yet to come," said Mr James.
