BREAKING: Green Janitor, Rotaract club Celebrates World Environmental Day

Green Janitor in conjunction with Lagos State Waterways Authority LASWA and Rotaract club Ajara, celebrated world environmental day at Marina Badagry, Lagos state.


The celebration was laced with sensitisation to the people of Badagry, Lagos State and the world at large on Saturday, it was based on the need to make our environments clean and the dangers of a dirty environment.



It centred on educating boat drivers and passengers on good use of the waterways in other to save lives and make the world a better place.


Mr. Ashade Abdulsalam Abiodun the Executive Director of  green janitor sustainable initiative told NewsPeddlers in an exclusive interview that, the UN has set June 5th aside to mark world environmental day.


"Today has been a day set aside globally to commemorate world environmental day, it’s a day to call for collective advocacy of the people towards the preservative and protection of our environment."


"United Nations(UN) has set aside June 5th for the commemoration of the world environmental day however today is June 4th every advocate for the environment, will always pick a day that will fit in their community and volunteer," Ashade stated.


Given the reason why the day was celebrated on June 4th, he said people won't be available on Sunday at their place of work.


"June  5th  falls on Sunday when we won’t have many boat operators at work, this year's celebration centres on Health Safety and Environment(HSE), and the theme for this year is only one life.


"First, we sensitise the boat operators on their safety while driving and how the boat operators can sensitise their passengers not to litter the waterways," He said.


"Green Janitor is a nongovernmental youth-led organisation that advocates a sustainable environment." He added.
