Guinea a West African country that witnessed a coup on the 5th
of September this year, has sworn in Colonel Mamady Doumbouya as the interim
president.
The ceremony was held in commemoration to the declaration of
independence from France in 1958, at the Mohammed-V palace in the capital
Conakry.
Doumbouya who led a Coup against the then president Alpha
Conde, was eventually sworn in yesterday October 1, by the Supreme Court heard
to organise the transition to civilian rule. Meanwhile the duration of the
transition is not specified.
Promising to respect the international commitments of west African
States.
In his speech after he was sworn in he said “neither he nor any
member of his government would stand in any future elections that the military
intend to organise after the transition period”.
Aljazeera has it that, His administration mission is to
restore the state, by drafting a new constitution, reform the electoral system,
fight corruption and organise a free and fair election.
Swearing his allegiance to the nation he said, he would “ loyally
preserve national sovereignty and consolidate democratic achievements,
guarantee the independence of the father land and integrity of the national
territory”.
According to a blue print Charter presented by the junta on
Monday, it stated that Doumbouya will serve as the transitional president,
until the country returned to civilian rule.
The former president Conde was elected a Guinea first democratic
president in 2010, who was likewise re-elected after five years in 2015.

The move to get him elected the third time in October 2020,
was what broke the camel’s back. Leading to various demonstrations, where lots
of lives was lost. But Conde insisted he won the election.
The released Charter further stated that “A new constitution
will be drafted, and a free, fair transition election will be held. The
president will serve as the head of state and Supreme Chief of armed forces,
who would determine the policies of the nation, with the power to appoint and
retrench an interim Prime minister”.
Maintaining that the president won’t be allowed to run in
the election that’ll follow the transition. The document stated.
Meanwhile the duration of the transition period is not
specified yet.
This move had sparked a serious fear among neighbouring
African countries, because Guinea is the second African country to witness coup,
in barely a year interval after Mali.
