Students who were part of the unified tertiary matriculation
examination (UTME), which commenced yesterday(Saturday), have encountered various
challenges in the process of writing the examination.
These challenges led to the cancellation of the examination,
in a centre in Lagos state and displeasure on some states.
Shipping Institute of Nigeria located in Magbon, along
Lagos-Badagry Express way. Is one of these institutions where students faced various
technical challenges, comprising internet failure and system malfunction.
Speaking with Premium Time, Mr. Fabian Benjamin the head of public
affairs board, confirmed the incident. “Yes we know about the challenges the students
affected would be reschedule” he said.
Meanwhile it’s nor certain if the centre would continue with
the UTME.
Speaking with Premium Time Mr. Andrew Adejo a guardian who was
at the centre, said “the first batch screened candidates, entered the hall around
7am. They still couldn’t do the examination till midday.
“The management at first said, it’s a nationwide challenge, but
it later came to the knowledge of the candidates that other centres has started,
this led to a display of displeasure among the parents and the students.”
The same incident took place in Government Secondary school,
JAMB centre in Garki, Abuja where candidates couldn’t commence the examination until
it’s midday.
“About 11am guardians were frustrated and demanded that they
allow candidates to go eat, if they don’t want problem.” an anonymous source
said.
It was a serious confrontation between parents and the security
agents, the source said.
Similar situation was reported in Nasarawa state by News Agency
of Nigeria (NAN) where guidance complained bitterly about bad network and malfunctioning
of computers.
Still speaking with NAN parents were concerned, that the situation
may affect the performance of the student.
A parent Mr. Ayuba Joshua in process of voicing his displeasure
said “we came here as early as possible. Candidates were supposed to start Exams
by 9am, they couldn’t because of bad network and system malfunction.
