BADAGRY, LAGOS – Hundreds of youths gathered at the Badagry City Hall for a grand civic reception in honour of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Deputy Governorship candidate, Princess Damilola Sonayon James (DSJ).
The event served as a powerful platform for the Badagry youth division to formally endorse the Hamzat-Sonayon ticket ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial elections. The massive turnout underscored a growing trend of youth-led political engagement in the region, with attendees pledging their unwavering support for the APC candidates.
In a joint Civic Address, the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Abolaji Sewhude Akande, and the Team Lead of the DSJ Ambassadors, Wheto Yusuf, lauded the selection of Princess Sonayon James as a victory for meritocracy.
"Sonayon James' emergence represents another important chapter in our collective political journey," the organisers stated. "It has renewed our confidence that competence, loyalty, and service continue to attract recognition. Her track record in community development and grassroots mobilisation, especially among women and youth, makes her the ideal partner for Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat."
The organisers also extended their gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC leadership for their strategic decision, expressing optimism that the Hamzat-Sonayon ticket would usher in a new era of inclusive leadership and sustainable development throughout Lagos State.
Beyond the political endorsement, the reception was a moment of profound inspiration for young people in the Badagry Division. The organisers used the occasion to challenge their peers to view the deputy governorship candidate’s success as a blueprint for their own ambitions.
"This is not the destination, but the beginning of greater possibilities," the Civic Address noted. "We hope Sonayon James' political journey inspires more youths especially young women to believe that with character, competence, and perseverance, no aspiration is beyond reach."
As the event concluded, the atmosphere was one of resolve. Youth leaders took the stage to reaffirm their commitment to extensive grassroots mobilisation. With the Hamzat-Sonayon ticket now firmly backed by the vibrant youth population of Badagry, the movement aims to secure a landslide victory in the 2027 Lagos State gubernatorial race.
