BADAGRY, LAGOS – Lagos State Politics witnessed a display of grassroots solidarity on Sunday, July 12, 2026 as hundreds of youths from across the Badagry Division converged on the Badagry City Hall for a grand civic reception.
The event was organized to honor the All Progressives Congress (APC) Deputy Governorship Candidate, Princess Damilola Sonayon James (DSJ), and officially declare their unalloyed support for the Hamzat-Sonayon ticket ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial elections.
The atmosphere inside the hall was electric, filled with enthusiastic young supporters waving banners and chanting slogans in celebration of a historic political milestone for the Badagry corridor.
In a joint Civic Address signed by the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Abolaji Sewhude Akande, and the Team Lead of DSJ Ambassadors, **Wheto Yusuf, the organizers praised Sonayon James' elevation as a watershed moment for the region.
"Princess Damilola Sonayon James' emergence represents another important chapter in our collective political journey," the organizers stated in the address. "It has renewed our confidence that competence, loyalty, and service continue to attract recognition."
The youth groups heavily commended her sterling track record in community development, grassroots mobilization, and public service, noting her consistent dedication to empowering women and young people throughout the division.
The gathering also served as a platform to express deep appreciation to national and state leaders. The organizers thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the leadership of the APC, and the party’s governorship candidate, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, for finding Princess Sonayon James worthy of the joint ticket.
"We express the hope that the Hamzat-Sonayon ticket will continue to promote inclusive leadership, good governance, and sustainable development across Lagos State," the address added, emphasizing that the combination embodies the ideal administrative continuity and progressive vision needed for a Greater Lagos.
Addressing the mammoth crowd of young people, leaders of the movement urged them to view the momentous occasion not as an isolated victory, but as a launching pad for greater political participation. They expressed optimism that Sonayon James' inspiring trajectory would serve as a beacon of hope for young women and youths across the state, proving that "with character, competence, and perseverance, no aspiration is beyond reach."
The grand reception reached its climax as youth leaders from the various wards across Badagry formally sealed their allegiance, pledging to hit the ground running with aggressive grassroots mobilization campaigns. The coalition expressed absolute confidence that the APC will record an unprecedented, landslide victory across the entire Badagry division in the upcoming 2027 polls.
