Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, the Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, has declared an ambitious infrastructure revolution for 2026, with the iconic Badagry Roundabout earmarked as the flagship project for a visible physical upgrade. 



In a definitive policy statement, Hunpe positioned infrastructural development as the unwavering priority of his administration, directly promising residents transformative changes to the area's landscape starting from this critical junction.


Outlining his vision in an official release by the Badagry Local Government Information Unit, Chairman Hunpe revealed that detailed plans are already in motion to enhance the ambience, aesthetics, and overall outlook of strategic locations. The Badagry Roundabout, a major gateway for international traffic from ECOWAS nations and a first impression for visitors from across Lagos and the Diaspora, has been selected for an immediate facelift, signaling the start of a broader regeneration plan.


This initiative is a cornerstone of a comprehensive infrastructural renewal and urban regeneration agenda designed to reposition Badagry as a premier hub for commerce, tourism, and cultural heritage. Hunpe emphasized that the upgrade goes beyond aesthetics, aiming to tangibly improve the quality of life for residents while boosting the local economy through stimulated commercial activities and improved mobility across the local government area.


Expanding on the scope, the council chairman disclosed that the roundabout project heralds a series of people-oriented infrastructure projects slated for rollout. These initiatives are strategically chosen to create a more enabling environment for businesses, improve connectivity, and strengthen the local economy, all while ensuring alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda at the grassroots level.


In tandem with physical upgrades, Hunpe issued a firm warning on environmental management, stating that the council will rigorously enforce regulations against illegal trading on drainage channels, road setbacks, and unauthorized spaces. He clarified that this crackdown is essential to combat flooding, reduce environmental degradation, ease traffic congestion, and safeguard public safety in Badagry.


Appealing for cooperation from residents, market associations, and community stakeholders, Hunpe reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to responsive governance and sustainable development. He pledged an unwavering focus on translating policies into impactful, visible projects that deliver long-term benefits, asserting that the 2026 infrastructure agenda marks a decisive step toward a cleaner, safer, more prosperous, and aesthetically pleasing Badagry for all.
