BADAGRY, LAGOS STATE – The Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, has pledged a transformative year of massive investment in infrastructure, education, and healthcare for the historic coastal community. 


The chairman made the declaration on Thursday January 1st 2026, in his official New Year message delivered to the people of Badagry, Lagos State.


In his address, titled "A Greater Badagry is Rising," Hunpe expressed deep gratitude to residents for their resilience and community spirit. He framed 2026 as a pivotal year for accelerated growth and tangible development under his administration.


“As we step into 2026, I am filled with gratitude for each of you, the heart and soul of our great community. Together, we have faced challenges, celebrated victories, and nurtured the spirit that makes Badagry unique,” Hunpe said. “This year, our journey of growth and progress will not slow down.”


Outlining his administration’s blueprint, the Badagry Chairman emphasized several critical sectors: Infrastructure: Hunpe promised to “invest in infrastructures that connect us,” signaling potential projects in road networks, public utilities, and facilities that enhance intra-city connectivity and economic activity.


Education & Healthcare: The chairman committed to building and equipping schools to educate children for a “brighter tomorrow,” alongside improving hospitals to ensure care “for every resident without exception.”


Empowerment & Economy: Continuous empowerment programs designed to lift individuals, families, and communities were highlighted as a priority to ensure “opportunities are real, accessible, and transformative.”


Tourism & Culture: Leveraging Badagry’s rich heritage, Hunpe vowed to celebrate and promote the area’s culture, history, and natural beauty, aiming to position it as a premier tourism hub within Lagos State.


Chairman Hunpe stressed that the ambitious vision for 2026 requires active collaboration from all residents. He called for unity and shared purpose in building the local government.


“Let us walk into this new year with courage, purpose, and determination. Every small effort, every act of unity, and every hand extended to a neighbor builds the Greater Badagry we all deserve,” he urged.
