The Benue State Police Command has successfully rescued an abducted female nursing student and eliminated a suspected gang leader in a fierce gun battle. The dramatic incident unfolded in the Agbungun community within the Logo Local Government Area, marking a significant victory against kidnapping in the region.

The crisis began on the evening of November 21st when a group of six armed men, traveling on two motorcycles, invaded Agbungun. The assailants abducted the student, whose identity is currently withheld. Acting on swift intelligence, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ayilamo mobilized patrol teams and tactical units, who tracked the kidnappers to their hideout in the nearby Biki community.

A intense gun duel erupted between the police operatives and the criminal gang. During the exchange, one of the hoodlums sustained critical gunshot wounds. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital and identified as the gang's leader, Avalumun Nyamver, widely known by his alias, 'Ornu'. In the heat of the crossfire, the abducted student managed to escape unscathed and has since been safely reunited with her relieved family.

The police operation yielded further results with the arrest of a female suspect, Mngusuun Torkende, who was found inside the kidnappers' hideout. During interrogation, Torkende claimed she was in the village for a burial and was asked to stay behind by the deceased gang leader. Authorities recovered a cache of items from the scene, including a GSM handset, criminal charms, bags, a cutlass, two power banks, and four SIM cards.

Efforts to track down and apprehend the remaining gang members who fled the scene are actively underway. By the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
