ABUJA, Nigeria – In a stunning rebuke, former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai (rtd), has publicly condemned the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, for his conduct on November 11, 2025, which is now being labeled a clear and present danger to Nigeria's national security.
The crisis stems from an incident where Minister Wike was seen in a viral video publicly disparaging and verbally assaulting a uniformed officer of the Nigerian Armed Forces. The event has sent shockwaves through the nation's political and military establishments.
In a strongly-worded statement, General Buratai articulated that the minister’s actions transcend mere political misconduct. He described the verbal assault as "an act of profound indiscipline that strikes at the core of our nation's command and control structure."
Analysts and security experts agree that such behavior deliberately undermines the military chain of command, disrespects the authority of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as Commander-in-Chief, and grievously wounds the morale of serving personnel. This public humiliation, they argue, erodes the very foundation of discipline upon which the national security apparatus stands.
"This cannot be dismissed as political theatre. It is a reckless endangerment of national order," the statement from the former Army Chief continued. "This action by Wike is clearly an indication of undermining the federal government’s authority."
Consequently, there is a growing chorus of demands for immediate accountability. General Buratai and other prominent voices are insisting that Barrister Nyesom Wike must tender an immediate and unequivocal public apology to President Tinubu, the entire Armed Forces of Nigeria, and the specific officer whose honour was violated.
As the nation grapples with this unprecedented breach of protocol, the consensus is clear: Nigeria's security must come first. The integrity of the Armed Forces demands decisive action, not the politics of military bashing. All eyes are now on the Presidency to see what steps will be taken to address this severe breach of national security protocol.
