DAMBOA, Borno State – In a fierce encounter in Northeast Nigeria, two soldiers and two members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) were killed after terrorists ambushed a patrol team in Borno State. The Nigerian Army has confirmed the incident, which occurred in the Damboa Local Government Area.
According to a statement released on Saturday by the Army's acting director of public relations, Appolonia Anele, the troops from the 25 Task Force Brigade were returning from a successful patrol within the fringes of the notorious Sambisa Forest when they came under attack.
The statement detailed that the team was on a routine patrol to secure communities around Wajiroko in Azir Multe when insurgents opened "sudden and heavy" fire.
Despite the surprise attack, the Nigerian Army reported that the patrol team, led by Brigadier General Uba, the Commander of the 25 Brigade, fought back courageously. The troops, comprising both soldiers and CJTF members, responded with "superior firepower," forcing the terrorists to withdraw in disarray and abandon their mission.
The Army has commiserated with the families of the deceased, lauding the fallen members for their ultimate sacrifice and praising the surviving troops for their gallantry.
In its statement, the Nigerian Army also moved quickly to debunk rumors, specifically denying the abduction of Brigadier General Uba during the ambush. The public was urged to disregard such misinformation and to continue praying for the success of the armed forces.
The Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, commended the "uncommon bravery, resilience and sacrifice" of the troops. He emphasized that their commitment in one of Nigeria's most dangerous conflict zones serves as a powerful reminder of the daily sacrifices made by service personnel to keep the country safe.
