BADAGRY, Lagos – A coalition of community stakeholders and security operatives in Badagry Local Government, Lagos State have categorically debunked widespread rumours of an impending invasion by herdsmen in the coastal community of Gberefu.

The action follows a robust meeting held on Monday, which brought together a broad spectrum of community representatives. The assembly included Youth Leaders, traditional heads known as Baales, the Zangan, and officers from various security agencies. The meeting was convened specifically to address the alarming misinformation circulating among residents and on social media platforms, which claimed that a group of herdsmen was en route to the Gberefu area.

Following a thorough investigation into the claims, the stakeholders confirmed the reports were entirely false. David Aladeotan, the Youth Representative who spoke on behalf of the coalition, addressed the media to set the record straight. "We have done a thorough search of the community, and we have realized that the information was not true," Aladeotan stated.

Jimoh Salako, the youth leader of Gberefu said, "There was information spreading that there's a group of herdsmen coming to Gberefu. After a robust research and stakeholders engagement, it has been realised to be false information. We want the public to know that there's no such thing happening and there's no need for panic."

The community leaders including Chief Semande Hungbo, Baale of Gberefu island have issued a united front, assuring all residents of Badagry West LCDA that their safety remains the highest priority. The collaborative effort between traditional institutions, youth groups, and formal security networks has been reinforced to maintain vigilance and peace.

The stakeholders have emphatically stated that all hands are on deck to monitor the situation and ensure the continued safety of life and property, urging the public to disregard the baseless rumours and go about their lawful activities without fear.
