BADAGRY, LAGOS STATE – In a move to tackle unemployment and foster sustainable energy adoption, the Oshtech Synergy Institute has officially launched a comprehensive training programme focused on solar energy inverter and battery installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance. The programme is designed to empower individuals with a unique blend of theoretical knowledge and 100% hands-on practical experience.
The initiative was publicly unveiled on Monday by the CEO of the institute, Idowu Oshoja Ojulari, during the programme's launching ceremony in Badagry, Lagos State. The event marked a concrete step towards building a skilled workforce for the nation's rapidly growing renewable energy industry.
Outlining the vision behind the project, Mr. Ojulari stated, "My aims are to promote the adoption of solar energy technologies through education, training, and research." He emphasized the institute's commitment to developing and delivering high-quality solar energy programs that are tailored to meet current industry demands, thereby fostering innovation and entrepreneurship within the sector.
The CEO further laid out a clear and time-bound roadmap for the institute's expansion and impact. Key objectives include establishing a state-of-the-art solar energy training facility within the next six months and developing a new cohort of fully equipped solar energy installers in just two months. A crucial part of the strategy involves partnering with leading industries to provide valuable internship and job opportunities for students. Additionally, the institute plans to conduct research and development on new solar energy technologies to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
A central pillar of the programme is its focus on large-scale human capacity development. Mr. Ojulari announced the ambitious goal of providing training and technical assistance to 1,000 youths in the solar energy industry within the next two years. The programme is open to a wide range of eligible participants, including youths, self-employed individuals seeking to add valuable skills to their portfolio, and the unemployed. The institute has confirmed that both males and females are encouraged to apply, promoting inclusivity in the tech-driven field.
The launch event saw immediate traction, demonstrating a clear demand for such practical skills training. The institute reported that four participants were officially registered and received their first lecture on the inaugural day. Furthermore, the programme generated significant local interest, with four additional individuals visiting the facility to make enquiries about joining the subsequent batches. This early response underscores the relevance of the initiative and its potential to make a substantial impact on the local community and the broader solar energy landscape in Nigeria.
