LAGOS, Nigeria – In a significant gesture celebrating cultural diplomacy, the Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Hon. Mobolaji Ogunlende, has presented the revered Sato Drum of Badagry to senior officials of the British Deputy High Commission.

The event, held in Lagos, served to strengthen international ties by showcasing the profound and enduring heritage of the historic Badagry community.

The presentation was made to Mr. Mark Fernandes, the HM Consul, and Vice Consul, Eno Agodo. Commissioner Ogunlende eloquently described the Sato Drum not merely as a musical instrument, but as a powerful emblem of Badagry's enduring traditions, resilience, and vibrant culture.

This act of cultural exchange highlights the rich history of the Badagry region, a key site in Nigerian history, and positions its heritage on a global stage, fostering a deeper appreciation for Nigeria's diverse cultural landscape.

Further extending the spirit of goodwill, a similar ceremonial Sato Drum was presented to Ms. Harriet Doughty, the Consular Regional Operations Manager, as a token of cultural appreciation as she concludes her tenure and prepares to return to Kigali.

The meeting provided a platform for Ms. Doughty to gain deeper insights into the ministry's extensive activities, particularly its robust support systems for vulnerable British nationals in Nigeria, paving the way for discussions on potential avenues for enhanced future collaborations.

Commissioner Mobolaji Ogunlende emphasized that the entire gesture reflects a shared spirit of cultural exchange and enduring diplomatic goodwill between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

By presenting the Sato Drum, a cornerstone of Badagry's cultural identity, the event successfully transcended a simple gift-giving ceremony, becoming a resonant dialogue of heritage, partnership, and mutual respect that promises to fortify the relationship between both nations for years to come.
