LAGOS, Nigeria – Panic and chaos erupted on Saturday morning at the Mammy Market within the Ojo Military Barracks in Lagos State, as a band of unidentified gunmen executed a brazen attack, fatally shooting a butcher known as Ridwan.
The shocking incident, which took place in a market presumed to be secure due to its location inside a military installation, has sent waves of fear through the local community and raised serious security concerns.
According to reports gathered by PUNCH Metro, the assault occurred around 8 am, a peak hour when the market was bustling with traders and customers. Witnesses described a scene of terror as approximately four assailants stormed the open market. The gunmen were said to have fired multiple shots into the air, causing a stampede as people scrambled for safety, fleeing in every direction.
In the midst of the confusion, the assailants targeted Ridwan, shooting him dead before escaping the scene. The Lagos State Police Command and military authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the motive behind the killing or the identity of the perpetrators.
