| Babatunde Hunpe the Executive chairman Badagry Local Government |
In a significant reversal, the Chairman of Badagry Local Government Council in Lagos, Mr. Babatunde Hunpe, has approved the reinstatement of 146 casual workers who were previously dismissed. This decision comes just weeks after the council disengaged 266 workers in a sweeping reform.
The move is part of the administration's ongoing performance-driven reforms, aimed at boosting productivity and accountability. Chairman Hunpe clarified that the re-engagement is strategic, with about 90% of the staff being essential personnel. These workers will be deployed to fill critical manpower gaps in key sectors, including: Primary Healthcare Centres, Security Services, Environment and Sanitation.
This redeployment is expected to significantly improve the operational capacity of these vital public service areas.
While offering a renewed opportunity, Mr. Hunpe had a direct message for the reabsorbed workers. He urged them to justify the council's confidence by demonstrating renewed dedication, discipline, and a strong commitment to their duties. The chairman reaffirmed his goal of building a motivated and result-oriented workforce for the Badagry community.
This re-engagement follows the controversial disengagement of 266 casual workers on September 15, which was attributed to a lack of productivity and other issues.
