Gas Tanker collapsed on Mowo-Ikoga Road |
BADAGRY, LAGOS STATE – A major catastrophe was narrowly avoided on Tuesday when a fully-loaded gas tanker collapsed in the middle of a busy road in Badagry, sparking intense fear of a potential explosion and prompting desperate calls for emergency intervention from residents.
The alarming incident occurred at approximately 11:00 AM at the popular Agenge Bus Stop, along the Mowo-Ikoga Road. According to eyewitness accounts, the large tanker, which was fully laden with combustible liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), suddenly keeled over and came to rest blocking the roadway.
The precarious situation immediately threw the area into a state of panic, with residents and business owners fearing the slightest spark could trigger a massive explosion.
The community's anxiety is palpable, with local leaders urgently appealing to government authorities. Speaking on behalf of the Igborosun Youth Forum, the group's Secretary, Musa Sodiq, voiced the collective fear. "We implore the government security agencies to come to our aid and the company for swift action. We are sitting on a time bomb here, and every second counts," Sodiq stated, highlighting the critical need for a professional response to avert a disaster.
Echoing this sentiment, another resident who spoke with our correspondent on the phone expressed relief that the situation was not worse but emphasized the lingering danger. "We thank God that the tanker did not roll over; if not, it would have exploded instantly. But the danger is still very real. We plead for swift action from the relevant agencies before it's too late. They should come and safely evacuate this tanker immediately," the resident pleaded, a note of desperation clear in their voice.
