Three individuals were arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Friday for allegedly causing a disturbance and disrupting court proceedings.
The accused Idowu Okuwawanna (40), Kayode Akintan (48), and Lawal Ademola (50) were charged with conspiracy and conduct likely to breach public peace.
According to SP Josephine Ikhayere, the prosecutor, the trio caused a nuisance on August 1, 2025, at approximately 11:00 a.m., within the premises of Samuel Ilori Magistrates’ Court in Ogba, Lagos.
“They were making excessive noise and disrupting court proceedings,” Ikhayere stated. She emphasized that their actions violated Sections 166(d) and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, which penalize public disturbances and unlawful assembly.
Presiding Magistrate Lateef Owolabi granted each defendant bail at N50,000, requiring one reliable surety in the same amount. The case was adjourned to September 9, 2025, for further hearing.
Courtroom disruptions undermine judicial decorum and can lead to contempt charges. This case serves as a warning against misconduct in legal settings, reinforcing the need for respect and order during court proceedings.
