Third Mainland Bridge |
In a sad development from last month's accident, the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has confirmed the recovery of a second victim whose car plunged into the Lagos Lagoon from the Third Mainland Bridge.
The body of 31-year-old Chado Daniel Danladi from Oremeta Street, Ikeja, was successfully recovered by search teams and has been released to his grieving family. Initial reports had indicated only one victim was in the vehicle involved in the early hours accident on August 23rd.
The first victim, a woman named Aisha aged between 25 and 35, was recovered by divers shortly after the incident. Investigations later confirmed Mr. Danladi was also in the Toyota Camry and was a colleague of the first victim.
The coordinated rescue effort highlights the efficiency of Lagos's emergency response units. LASWA's Search and Rescue team worked seamlessly with the Marine Police, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), and the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), aided significantly by local fishermen.
LASWA General Manager, Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, stated that this incident "demonstrates the efficiency of our coordinated emergency response and the strong community support." He reaffirmed the authority's commitment to ensuring safety and rapid response across all Lagos waterways.
