Lagos State University (LASU) faces a total shutdown as major staff unions, including the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), have commenced an indefinite strike over unresolved disputes with the university management.
In a strongly worded letter dated July 31, 2025, and addressed to Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of LASU staff unions ordered an immediate withdrawal of services.
The directive affects all staff across LASU’s main campus, the Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM), and the Epe campus.
The unions, in their statement, declared “The indefinite strike action has COMMENCED in Lagos State University and will remain in force until all demands of staff members are met by the appropriate authorities.”
The strike comes at a critical time, with LASU students scheduled to begin their 2024/2025 second-semester examinations next Monday.
The abrupt withdrawal of academic and non-academic staff could derail the exam schedule, leaving thousands of students in uncertainty.
