Badagry, Lagos – Hon. Bonu Solomon Saanu, the Member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Badagry Constituency 1, has officially launched a major inter-ward football competition, for the youths in his constituency.

The initiative, designed for the twelve wards within his constituency, was unveiled this past Sunday with a dual purpose: to promote sportsmanship and encourage civic participation among young people through ongoing Permanent Voter Card (PVC) registration.

During the launch, Hon. Saanu articulated his vision for the tournament, stating, “This is about bringing the youths in my constituency together.” He emphasized that the competition is more than just a game; it is a platform for unity and talent discovery.

“My expectation is to build purposeful youths who love football. We can discover youths among us who could represent Badagry and Lagos State,” he said.

In a unique twist to ensure civic engagement, the lawmaker announced that participants will only be able to claim prizes by presenting their voter's card, seamlessly blending sports with a call to political responsibility.

The football competition launch also provided a platform for Hon. Saanu to address broader infrastructure developments in Badagry. He provided a significant update on the long-awaited Badagry stadium, confirming that the Lagos State Government has approved Badagry Grammar School as the site.

“The contractor has completed about one or two [projects], any moment from now he should move to Badagry,” Saanu assured. He also revealed that he has engaged the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Hon. Mobolaji Ogunlende, to expedite the process and is similarly liaising with the Federal Government for a stadium in the border town of Apa.

Concluding his address, Hon. Saanu thanked the youths of Badagry for their resilience and appealed for continued patience with the government, promising to "continue to push for more." He extended an open invitation to any youth with developmental ideas, affirming that his doors are always open.

Mr. Sewude Akonde, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, highlighted the wider benefits of such initiatives, noting that a stadium and sports events are crucial for social development, talent nurturing, unity, and even boosting local tourism and commerce.
