Rauf Ibrahim and Women celebrating Isese |
BADAGRY, LAGOS - The Executive Chairman of Badagry West Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Rauf Ibrahim Kayode Yemaren (RIKAY), has extended warm felicitations to traditional rulers, Baales, heritage custodians, and cultural stakeholders across the council area on the momentous occasion of the 2025 Isese Day celebration, observed today, August 20th.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Solomon ZOSU, Hon. Rauf described Isese Day as a profound reminder of the rich tapestry of indigenous traditions.
He positioned Badagry West as a proud custodian of diverse cultural values, uniquely blending the heritage of its people. The Chairman eloquently framed the importance of the day, stating, “a community without culture or tradition is like a tree without roots. We must preserve our identity, for our heritage remains our pride.”
Hon. Yemaren took special care to highlight the distinct cultural identity of the Ogu people, whose traditions form a vital part of the region's soul. He celebrated iconic cultural symbols such as the mysterious Zangbeto (the revered guardian of the night), Gunuko, Kori, and Oro, alongside the vibrant traditional rites shared with Yoruba neighbours.
This fusion, he noted, creates the unique cultural dynamics that make Badagry West stand out. He specifically commended the efforts of royal fathers including HRM Oba Oyekan Adekanmi Ilufemiloye Ajose Posi III, the Alapa of Apa, and HRM Oba Sejiro Olalekan James, the Aholu of Kweme Kingdom, for their pivotal role in keeping these ancient practices alive for future generations.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment, Chairman RIKAY promised unwavering support for cultural development without bias, championing a message of inclusiveness.
He emphasized that the celebration of indigenous heritage is a unifying force for all residents. “As a government, we carry everyone along irrespective of religion or belief. Whether Christian, Muslim, or adherents of traditional faith, we remain one united Badagry West,” he declared.
