Governor Babaji Sanwo-Olu and uncomplicated road |
Concerned residents of Badagry have raised alarms over the impending commissioning of an uncompleted road project by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The Badagry General Hospital Road, which was expected to stretch from Topo-Idale to ASCON, remains incomplete, stopping abruptly at the LASU Foundation gate.
Despite its unfinished state, the road and other roads are scheduled for commissioning on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
Barr. Medemaku Abayomi, a local resident, expressed frustration over the project, stating that while Governor Sanwo-Olu is welcome in Badagry, the completed Phase 1 of the road does not connect key communities as promised.
"Hospital Road (Phase 1) DOES NOT link Dale, Povita, and Ajido to LASU Foundation," he emphasized. "The section meant to connect these areas has either not started or has been abandoned. We were told Phase 2 would handle that, but there’s no sign of work yet."
The completed Phase 1 only connects the General Hospital to Badagry Township and the local market, leaving many residents questioning the government’s priorities. Additionally, residents lamented that the streetlights along the road are rarely functional, though they suspect they may be temporarily activated for the governor’s visit.
The locals are urging officials to prioritize the completion of Phase 2 to ensure the road serves its intended purpose. The commissioning of an unfinished project has sparked criticism, with many calling for transparency and accountability in infrastructure development.
As Governor Sanwo-Olu prepares to inaugurate the road, Badagry residents hope their grievances will be addressed and that the promised Phase 2 will soon commence to improve connectivity and economic growth in the area.
