The Badagry Journalists Forum has announced bold resolutions from its inaugural general meeting held on August 9, 2025, signaling a new era for journalism in the historic town.

In a press release signed by Chairman Godonu Felix, the forum outlined plans to professionalize media practice, combat quackery, and establish the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Badagry Gateway Chapel.

The meeting, which brought together media professionals from print, broadcast, and online platforms, emphasized the urgent need to elevate journalism standards in Badagry. Attendees unanimously agreed on fostering ethical reporting, collaboration, and capacity building to strengthen the industry’s credibility and impact in the region.

A key resolution was the formalization of the NUJ Badagry Gateway Chapel, a long-awaited move to organize journalists under a recognized regulatory body.

This initiative aims to streamline membership, advocate for practitioners' welfare, and provide structured training to enhance professionalism. The forum noted that the absence of a unified body has allowed unqualified individuals to pose as journalists, tarnishing the profession’s reputation.

To tackle this challenge, the forum resolved to implement strict membership verification, regular training programs, and enforcement of ethical codes.

These measures will help distinguish legitimate journalists from impostors while restoring public trust in Badagry’s media landscape.

Beyond internal reforms, the forum pledged to engage government agencies, civil society groups, and traditional leaders to promote development-focused reporting. By amplifying Badagry’s stories on broader platforms, journalists aim to position the town as a key player in national discourse.

Prominent media houses represented included Bond FM, ON TV, Voice of the Farmer, Iworo Radio, New Telegraph, Badagry Prime, News Peddlers, NAN, De Voice, Badagry Today, Badagry Radio, and Radio Nigeria.

With this united front, Badagry’s journalists are poised to redefine storytelling, accountability, and excellence in the profession.
