In a stunning political shift, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been declared the winner in a massive 20 out of the 23 local government areas in Rivers State's latest chairmanship election.
The poll, which was held on Saturday and organized by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), signals a significant blow to the state's ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The PDP managed to secure victories in only three LGAs, a result that underscores a major change in the political landscape of the oil-rich state.
Adding to the shock of the outcome, Governor Siminalayi Fubara suffered a symbolic defeat in his own home constituency. The APC successfully won control of Opobo-Nkoro LGA, the Governor's native local government area.
The official results were announced on Sunday afternoon by RSIEC Chairman, Dr. Michael Odey, at the commission's headquarters on Aba Road in Port Harcourt. This decisive outcome is set to reshape the political dynamics in Rivers State ahead of future elections.
