Accident on Lagos-badagry expressway

A young female hawker, struck by a speeding Toyota Camry at Mowo Bus Stop along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, has tragically succumbed to her injuries at Badagry General Hospital.

The victim, believed to be around 10 years old and a resident of Atinplome in Olorunda LCDA, was selling oguso (a traditional fire inflator) and brooms when the accident occurred Monday evening. Eyewitnesses reported the vehicle was moving at high speed when it hit the child as she attempted to cross the busy highway.

Despite rushed medical attention from the Nigeria Road Safety Corps, the girl was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at the hospital. The incident has sparked renewed outrage among residents, who have long demanded pedestrian bridges and improved safety measures along the expressway a critical transit route that remains perilous for locals, especially children and traders.

"This was preventable," lamented community leader Mr. Kehinde Ajose. "How many more lives must we lose before authorities act?" The Lagos-Badagry Expressway, though under reconstruction for years, still lacks essential pedestrian infrastructure in high-risk zones like Mowo. Residents are now urging immediate government intervention to avert further tragedies, emphasizing that no child should die simply trying to cross a road.

As grief sweeps through the community, the heartbreaking incident underscores the urgent need for safer infrastructure and enforcement of traffic regulations on Nigeria’s highways.
