The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State has openly pleaded with former governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, along with other aggrieved members, to return to the party.
The appeal came after an enlarged State Executive Committee (SEC) meeting held in Awka on Thursday, where party leaders reviewed the PDP’s current state and strategized for the future.
In a communique signed by Anambra PDP Chairman Chidi Chidebe, the party urged Obi and other former members to reunite with the "rejuvenated and restructured" PDP, stating that alliances with "ideologically incompatible" parties may not bring the desired change.
"The committee extends an open invitation to all aggrieved and former members of the PDP in Anambra, particularly our revered former governor, Mr. Peter Obi, to return home," the statement read. "We will gladly welcome our brothers and sisters back to join us in the collective quest for a better Nigeria."
Obi, who left the PDP in 2022 after failing to secure its presidential ticket, went on to contest under the Labour Party, emerging as a formidable third-force candidate in the 2023 elections.
The PDP also called on Anambra voters to support its candidates, Jude Ezenwafor and Francis Okeke, in the upcoming elections while urging INEC to ensure a free and fair process.
Additionally, the party announced the nomination of Clems Ezike to fill the vacant position of National Ex-Officio member from Anambra and commended the PDP’s national leadership for resolving internal crises.
Will Obi heed the call and make a dramatic return? Only time will tell.
