The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has publicly apologized for the delayed administration of the English Language Paper 2 during the ongoing 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). The exam, originally scheduled for an earlier time, was held on Wednesday evening due to unforeseen challenges.
In an official statement by Moyosola Adesina, WAEC’s Acting Head of Public Affairs, the council acknowledged the inconvenience caused to students, schools, and parents. The delay was attributed to stringent measures implemented to prevent question paper leaks, a top priority for the examination body.
"While upholding the integrity and security of our exams, we faced significant challenges in our efforts to prevent any potential leakage," WAEC stated. "We deeply regret the disruption and assure all stakeholders of our commitment to smooth and timely examinations in the future."
Despite successfully securing the exam’s integrity, WAEC admitted that logistical issues, security concerns, and socio-cultural factors contributed to operational setbacks. The council reassured the public of its dedication to maintaining high standards in examination conduct and fostering academic excellence.
This incident has sparked discussions on improving WAEC’s exam logistics while balancing security and efficiency. Stay tuned for further updates on WASSCE 2025 developments.
