The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has called out popular social media personality "Very Dark Man" (VDM), accusing him of collaborating with illegal drug dealers to stir public anger against the agency and evade justice.

A viral video showed VDM alongside protesting traders at Onitsha Bridge Head Market, Anambra State, where they claimed NAFDAC officials were demanding bribes (N500,000–N700,000) to reopen shops shut down in a crackdown on fake and harmful drugs.

But NAFDAC has fired back, stating that over 2,500 traders (with 3,500 shops) have already resumed business after complying with regulations. Only a few shops remain closed those linked to banned narcotics, per NAFDAC’s records.

In a statement by Director-General Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, the agency:  Denied extortion claims, saying the market reopened on March 9, 2025, after traders followed due process.

Warned that VDM’s video could breach the Cybercrime Act.for inciting defiance against NAFDAC’s enforcement operations.  Accused him of distracting the public to shield fake drug cartels from prosecution.

NAFDAC has alerted security agencies to investigate whether VDM’s actions broke the law. Meanwhile, traders were given time to relocate to a monitored warehouse under new regulations.
