Dr. Sewedo Olalekan Samuel, a lecturer at the Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), has publicly defended Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, a chairmanship aspirant in Badagry Local Government, Lagos State, against what he termed “unfair criticism” of the former lawmaker’s performance, a challenged to other aspirant to release their impact in Badagry.

In a detailed statement titled “Setting the Record Straight: Hon. Babatunde Hunpe’s Legacy of Service,” Dr. Sewedo highlighted several infrastructural, educational, and health projects executed by Hunpe, urging Badagry residents to support his candidacy based on verifiable achievements.

Dr. Sewedo pointed to multiple classroom constructions at LA Primary School, Ajido, the establishment of Mowo Secondary School, and upgrades at Ajara Comprehensive High School and St. Thomas Primary School as proof of Hunpe’s commitment to education.

On infrastructure, he cited the Ajido Bridge, Aradagun Road, Samuel Ekundayo Road, and the VIP Chalet reconstruction during the Ambode administration as key projects facilitated by Hunpe. “The people of Age-Mowo remember when their roads were impassable… now they drive with dignity,” Dr. Sewedo remarked.

The lecturer also noted Hunpe’s contributions to healthcare, including the Primary Health Centre at Ajara Topa, and his role in rural electrification while serving as Special Adviser on Rural Development. Additionally, he credited Hunpe with supporting the LASPARK Garden at Idale-Badagry, enhancing environmental sustainability.

Dr. Sewedo criticized the trend of politicians prioritizing publicity over real work, stating that Hunpe’s reluctance to self-promote had led to underestimation of his impact. He recalled Hunpe’s pride in mentoring students during his time as a protocol officer at Lagos State University, showcasing his passion for grassroots development.

The lecturer urged Badagry’s youth and elites to assess candidates based on empirical evidence, not political rhetoric. He referenced former Minister Babatunde Fashola’s acknowledgment of Hunpe’s relentless lobbying for the Lagos-Badagry Expressway as further proof of his dedication.

“Badagry needs leaders who deliver, not just those who perform,” Dr. Sewedo asserted, urging voters to prioritize authentic service over political theatrics.

Dr. Sewedo, is challenging other candidates to list their achievements, if any can beat the numerous records of Hunpe in Badagry.
