The Labour Party (LP) in Lagos State has raised the alarm over a brazen attack on its state secretariat by suspected political thugs, describing the invasion as a criminal assault on democracy.

In a strongly-worded press statement signed by Chief Dafe Okpalefe, Chair of Chairs, and Dr. Oluwanifemi Elegbede, Secretary of the Labour Party’s Lagos Local Government Council, the party condemned the violent invasion allegedly led by Bashorun Anjorin and Mr. Rasheed Bamishe.

The assailants reportedly destroyed property worth millions of Naira, stole substantial cash amounts, and made off with sensitive party documents in what appears to be a calculated attempt to disrupt the party’s administration.

The 20 Local Government Chairmen of the Labour Party in Lagos expressed outrage over the incident, labeling it an affront to democratic values. They reaffirmed their support for the State Chairman, Pastor (Dr.) Mrs. Dayo Ekong, and the National Executive Committee led by Barr. (Dr.) Julius Abure, passing a vote of confidence in their leadership.

“This reprehensible act is not just an attack on our party but an assault on the rule of law,” the statement read. “We will pursue justice to its logical conclusion, no matter how long it takes or whose interests are affected.”

The party vowed to collaborate with law enforcement agencies to ensure the perpetrators face the full wrath of the law. “Criminality has no place in our political ethos,” the statement emphasized. “We will do everything necessary to uphold the sanctity of our party and its democratic principles.”

The Labour Party’s leadership warned that such lawlessness must be met with decisive action to deter future occurrences. The incident has raised concerns about political violence ahead of upcoming elections, with the party urging security agencies to investigate and prosecute those responsible.

The Labour Party has pledged to recover stolen documents and repair damaged properties while reinforcing security at its secretariat. Political analysts suggest this attack could further galvanize the party’s base, as stakeholders demand accountability.

As investigations unfold, all eyes remain on law enforcement to ensure justice prevails in this high-stakes political clash.
