Hon. Solomon Bonu, the Lagos State House of Assembly member representing Badagry Constituency I, has assured residents of Badagry West LCDA that electricity will soon be restored to their communities.

The lawmaker made the announcement in a Facebook post, revealing that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved funding to revive power supply in the area.

He described the development as a major milestone, aligning with the governor’s recent efforts to enhance electricity access across Lagos, including the signing of the Lagos State Electricity Bill 2024 into law.

In a phone conversation with News Peddlers, Bonu confirmed that contractors have begun documentation to access the funds, with on-site work expected to commence immediately after completion.

He commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for his swift intervention, acknowledging the patience and resilience of Badagry West residents.

"My people in Badagry West LCDA should rest assured that electricity will be restored very soon," Bonu stated.

The assurance follows a recent PUNCH newspaper report highlighting the prolonged power outage in Kweme and other parts of Badagry West LCDA. Bonu had earlier raised the issue on the floor of the Lagos Assembly, prompting the Committee on Energy and the Ministry of Energy to investigate.

Meanwhile, social advocate Manoah Kikekon told PUNCH that prolonged blackouts have led to vandalism of electrical installations in some communities. "In Wayingbeme, after Suntan Beach, power lines have been stripped, and transformer components stolen. Despite repeated complaints, no action was taken due to perceived low revenue potential," he said.

With the governor’s approval now secured, residents are hopeful that the long wait for stable electricity will soon be over.
